Very special event being held to raise money for our winter animal shelter appeal!
Join us on Sunday 2ndOctober to paint and take home a specially produced handmade Deen City Farm Hedgehog figure.
All proceeds from this activity will go directly towards providing new paddock shelters for our animals to protect them from the Great British weather!
Activity suitable for adults & children, recommended for ages 5+
£7.50 per Hedgehog, Advanced booking highly recommended. There will also be a selection of additional handmade figurines to purchase on the day, with all proceeds also going towards our shelter appeal.
About our shelter appeal: We are fundraising to replace the 7 large animal shelters in our back fields. The shelters are old, with missing sides & holes in the roof, many of them were also badly damaged during Storm Eunice earlier in the year. We need to raise £5800 to replace all 7 and provide shelter from the Great British Weather for our animals. Thank you for your support.

On Saturday July 28th, 1pm to 4pm, right here on the Farm, we’ll be running an “Introduction to Keeping Chickens” course for anyone thinking of getting their own chickens. No existing knowledge required. We’ll cover everything you need to think about and plan for, with advice on choosing breeds, on what equipment you’ll need to buy, and how to look after your chickens. The three-hour course will include plenty of hands-on time learning how to handle chickens safely and confidently. It’ll be a hen party, but you’ll be left with a great feeling (and handouts) instead of a hangover. £25 per person, children over 7 welcome. Includes refreshments. To make sure everyone has lots of chicken-time, there’ll be just 8 places. Book early!
The course will be run by Nick Golson, Farm Manager, RAU graduate and chicken-liker.
What the course will cover:
Thinking it all through: reasons to keep chickens, commonly asked questions
What you need in terms of housing and equipment, how to deal with foxes, what to feed
How to choose and buy the chickens: hybrids, pure breeds, bantams
How to get them home and settle them in
The daily, weekly and monthly routine
Pest control and predators
Seasonal care
Behaviour
Eggs
Basic anatomy, general health and health problems
When to call the vet
Hopefully there’s less snow and more sunshine, but that only time will tell… As per usual, we’ll be running extra activities during the Easter holidays.
We will also be running our regular holiday programme with Own A Pony and Young Farmer days. There’s still spaces available so for further information and booking check our holiday programmes page.
